Teaches the dental assistant about treatment room equipment, types of   handpieces, and rotary instruments. V107 - Dental Insurance                                                                1 hour

Comprehensive presentation on types of dental insurance: UCR fees, PPO, EPO, HMO, and direct reimbursement. Concepts reviewed include copayments, deductibles, insurance procedure codes, primary insurance, secondary insurance, coordination of benefits, preauthorization, signature on file, assignment of benefits, and least expensive alternative treatment. Processing dental insurance is illustrated by filling out insurance forms with many case examples to reinforce concepts.

V108 - Collection Policy and Making Financial Arrangements    1 hour

Designed to emphasize the importance of collecting fees at the time of treatment and to make staff feel comfortable asking patients for money. Discusses informing patients of fees prior to treatment, collection techniques, and payment options including credit cards and outside finance agencies. Numerous examples of of patient encounters are shown to reinforce material and maximize the learning experience.

V109 - Patient Records Management and Dental Charting           1 hour

An in depth look at a patient information sheet and patient chart. Tooth numbers and tooth surfaces are reviewed on a patient chart. Clinical examples illustrate charting of existing restorations and treatment needed. Periodontal disease, measuring and charting of periodontal pockets, and tooth mobility are illustrated with animations and video. The importance of chart notes and supplying information to the business office regarding patient treatment are also discussed.

V110 - Infection Control and Emergencies in the Dental Office   1 hour, 10 minutes

This video educates staff about microorganisms and the transmission of infection, methods of infection control, health concerns in the dental office, barrier techniques, OSHA guidelines, methods of disinfection and sterilization, and the disposal of biohazardous waste and sharps.  Actual demonstrations of cleaning and disinfecting a treatment room and cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments are very informative.  Medical and dental emergencies are discussed and finally a 10 minute course summary is presented.
